How to Make a Pizza

1. Make the dough
At the base of any great pizza, is both literally and figurately, the crust. Making pizza dough is quite simple and involves very few ingredients.

Prepare the pizza dough in advance and store it in the fridge for a few days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- ½ tsp sugar
- 1 ½ warm water
- 4 cups ‘00’ flour
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp kosher salt
Instructions
STEP 1
Combine yeast, sugar and water in a large mixing bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes to allow the yeast to dissolve.
STEP 2
Stir in the flour, olive oil, and salt until just combined to make a rough dough. Knead the dough in the bowl for 3 minutes. The dough should come together in a ball and be soft as you work with it. Add more flour to your hand, as needed, to keep the dough from sticking.
STEP 3
Dust a cutting board or the counter with flour and turn out the dough from the bowl. Cover the dough with plastic wrap, then invert the bowl over the dough balls. Let rise for 30 minutes.
STEP 4
After the dough has risen, cut the dough in half and knead each half for 1 minute. Cover the 2 dough balls with the plastic wrap and again invert the bowl over the top. Let dough rise for 30 more minutes.

2. Prepare the sauce
Now that you have the dough set, the next step is creating a fresh and bright marinara sauce. Since the sauce comes together so quickly and with so few ingredients, choosing the best goes a long a way.

Pizza is what you make it! Try a white (or bianca) base for a twist.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, sliced
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp crushed fennel seeds
- 28 oz whole tomatoes
- ½ cup fresh basil leaves
Instructions
STEP 1
In a Stainless Steel Rondeau over medium heat, warm the oil. Add the garlic, red pepper flakes and ground fennel. Cook, while stirring, for 1 minute.
STEP 2
Add the tomatoes and basil. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil.
STEP 3
Reduce the heat and let simmer for 30 minutes or until slightly thickened. Adjust the seasoning. Remove from the heat.

3. Add the toppings
Toppings are optional and personal. This is your chance to get creative and choose what you like best.

Lay out your toppings in Mini Round Cocottes or Ramekins and let everyone make their pizza, their way.

Want to feed a crowd? Try our Large Sheet Pan for an easy to share meal. Or, keep it classic with our perforated round Pizza Pan that will get you a perfectly crisp bottom and tender crust.

For an extra crisp crust, precook the pizza dough for 5-10 minutes. Finish baking with your toppings and enjoy!
