THE ARCHIVE SERIES The Round Dutch Oven
Expertly crafted from enamelled cast iron, the Le Creuset Round Dutch Oven has grown from a trusted product into a key part of our brand’s identity, loved by chefs and culinary enthusiasts alike. Explore the journey of how this iconic piece helped shape the brand and became a must-have in kitchens everywhere.

1925
Our story begins in 1925 with the original Cocotte in Volcanique - the foundation of our iconic Round Dutch Oven and the first ever colourful cookware of its kind. Its signature circular lid handle and vibrant red-to-orange gradient set a bold precedent for culinary artistry and innovation. This groundbreaking piece transformed everyday cooking into an extraordinary experience and laid the groundwork for a legacy at its infancy.

1925-1945
The 1950s ushered many innovations including the Rayure Collection – a bold evolution in design. Featuring a refined vertical gradient pattern, this variation reflects a daring spirit and a commitment to innovation. This iteration elevated the cookware’s aesthetic appeal and functionality, setting a new standard for generations of culinary enthusiasts.

1957
In 1957, after acquiring Hauts Fourneaux of Cousances, our Round Dutch Oven lineage expanded with the Doufeu. Rooted in a heritage dating back to 1553, its innovative recessed lid is designed to hold ice cubes or coal, enhancing its self-basting function for added performance. This revolutionary feature helps retain moisture and intensify flavour, epitomizing French craftsmanship and the enduring spirit of culinary innovation.

1972
In the early 70s, our Round Dutch Oven adopted a brand-new version of its iconic three-ring design, a transformative evolution in style and function. This distinctive feature not only enhanced both the visual appeal and practicality of our cookware. The three-ring design creates a vent, allowing the lid to stay securely locked in place while your stock bubbles away. Today, this celebrated hallmark of innovation continues to define our enduring legacy.

1998
The 1998 introduction of the Pumpkin Cocotte marked a fresh chapter in our Round Dutch Oven story. Its warm, inviting silhouette and versatile design redefined cookware aesthetics – blending nostalgic charm with contemporary performance. This evolution set the tone for decades of innovation, earning its place as a beloved icon in kitchens around the world.

2017
In 2017, in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, our Dutch Oven was outfitted with a new maple leaf embossment – a tribute to our enduring commitment to honouring local heritage since our inception. With its vibrant Cerise finish and commemorative design, this collection not only marks a milestone in our history but also continues to inspire the culinary traditions that have defined our legacy.

2025
Introducing the 2025 Flamme Dorée – the latest evolution in our iconic Round Dutch Oven journey. Honouring the original Flame hue from 1925, this limited-edition masterpiece is imbued with shimmering gold accents and features a striking brushed light-gold Crucible Knob.
